Comprehensive Licensure Exam Review For Aspiring Nurses In Canada

Regulatory Exam- Practical Nurse (REx-PN) is a new Canadian Practical Nurse exam currently developed for College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and is in effect since January 2022. This exam replaces CPNRE for these two regulatory bodies only.

This means all applicants seeking registration to become RPN/LPNs in Ontario and BC must write and pass the REx-PN. This exam:

Uses computerized adaptive testing (CAT) to administer the test questions. Initially, everyone is administered a question with a relatively low difficulty level, and his/her progression on the exam from that point onward depends on their performance.

The computer/software decides whether a candidate has passed or failed by using either of these three rules: 95% Confidence Interval Rule, Maximum-Length Exam Rule or Run-out-of-time (R.O.O.T.) Rule.

The test plan for the REx-PN contains in-depth information about exam content, exam administration and includes item writing exercises. It is updated every five years.

The passing standard for the REx-PN is the cut point at which the minimum ability is determined to make sure newly licensed practical nurses are competent to practice at the entry level. They are routinely evaluated to ensure they reflect current entry level nursing practice.

The number of questions an exam writer will receive will range between minimum 90 to maximum 150 and you will have four hours to complete the test.

How We Can Help?

Building Nursing Careeris #1 choice for IENs, and local graduates to pass their licensing exams.

Since the practice of nursing requires the application of knowledge, skills, and abilities, most REx-PN test questions are written at the application or higher levels of cognitive ability, which requires more complex thought processing.

These are the key areas that we focus on to help you pass REx-PN:

  • Safe and Effective Care
  • Management of Care
  • Safety and Infection Control
  • Health Promotion and Maintenance
  • Psychosocial Integrity
  • Physiological Integrity
  • Basic Care and comfort
